Jose L. Becerra is a Partner at Ferraro Law, where he is known for his relentless preparation, strategic litigation approach, and commitment to client advocacy. Since joining the firm in 2014, Mr. Becerra has played a pivotal role in some of the firm’s most significant verdicts and settlements, with a litigation record that reflects both precision in legal strategy and compassion for the clients he serves. Clients know him for his integrity, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to fighting for justice on their behalf.
Mr. Becerra has served as second-chair trial counsel in three asbestos cases that collectively resulted in verdicts totaling $85.8 million, including a $70.1 million verdict in Thornton v. GEA Mechanical Equipment US, Inc. His other trial work includes a $9 million verdict in Moure-Cabrera v. Johnson & Johnson and a $6.78 million verdict in Moore v. John Crane, Inc. In addition to trial results, Mr. Becerra has recovered millions of dollars in settlements for his clients, taken and defended hundreds of fact witness, expert, and corporate representative depositions, and has consistently prevailed in defeating motions for summary judgment and securing favorable rulings in complex cases.
Mr. Becerra holds a B.B.A. from the University of Miami and is admitted to practice law in Florida, Massachusetts, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, where he distinguished himself as a member of the International and Comparative Law Review and served as Interschool Vice President of the Charles C. Papy Jr. Moot Court Board. His advocacy skills were recognized through numerous national accolades, including being named “Best Oral Advocate” at the C. Clyde Atkins 2011 Fall Moot Court Competition, “Outstanding Oral Advocate” at the 21st Annual Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition, and “Runner-Up Best Oral Advocate” at the 2013 Cristol Kahn Paskay Cup. He was also awarded the Kapila Family Foundation Scholarship, Louis Phillips Scholarship, and the Dean’s Certificate of Academic Achievement in both Commercial Law and Tort Law & Policy. Upon graduation, he was inducted into The Order of Barristers, a national honor recognizing excellence in courtroom advocacy.
